Apex seeking Experienced Survey Crew Chief
Position Overview:
As a Survey Crew Chief, you will lead a field crew performing a wide range of survey tasks, including construction staking, boundary and topographic surveys, right-of-way surveys, and control surveys. Project types may include residential subdivisions, transportation infrastructure, schools, and military facilities.
This role involves direct coordination with property owners, public officials, engineers, contractors, and internal staff. You'll oversee daily field operations, ensure procedural consistency and accuracy, and provide mentorship and technical training to crew members. You’ll also serve as a key technical resource, supporting concurrent survey and development projects from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead field survey operations in compliance with project scope and company standards.
- Conduct boundary, ALTA, topographic, and construction layout surveys.
- Operate and maintain advanced survey equipment, including Leica Robotic Total Stations, Topcon GPS, and Carlson Data Collectors.
- Interpret construction drawings and technical documents for field implementation.
- Ensure thorough, accurate field notes and quality control documentation.
- Provide training and day-to-day guidance to crew members.
- Coordinate with project managers and maintain regular communication regarding progress and field conditions.
- Organize electronic files and field data for seamless integration with office teams.
- Conduct field work in various environmental conditions while maintaining safety protocols.
Required Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of experience as a Survey Crew Chief.
- Proficiency in robotic total stations, GPS systems, and electronic data collection tools.
- Solid understanding of construction plans, surveying principles, and deliverable standards.
- Strong math, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Clear, effective verbal communication and basic computer skills.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain federal access credentials for military and port facilities.
- Willingness and ability to work in varying outdoor weather conditions.
- Familiarity with Washington survey codes, QA/QC practices, and documentation standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- LSIT (Land Surveyor in Training) or CST (Certified Survey Technician) certification.
- Interest in pursuing Professional Surveyor licensure.
- Familiarity with Washington State and local agency permitting processes.
